Meet the Candidate

A Life of Service to Hawthorne

Ray Vergara was born in Gardena and raised in South Central Los Angeles by Victoria and Pedro Vergara, one of nine children growing up near 81st and Normandie. He’s a proud graduate of Junipero Serra High School, earned a bachelor’s in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing from Cal State LA, and later completed his MBA at the University of Phoenix.

After 19 years in the corporate world, Ray founded RAV Insurance Services right here in Hawthorne and has been part of the Farmers Group of exclusive agents for 19 years. He’s been married to Lupita for 25 years, they’re proud parents to their daughter Alessandra, and the family has called Hawthorne home for 26 years.

Ray is running for City Treasurer because residents deserve to know how their tax dollars are spent — We need clear answers about where our tax dollars go and a line-by-line understanding of city spending. It’s time to listen to the Hawthorne community—from Juan, a local business owner and honest mechanic at Nur Benz, to Victor of Mi California Restaurant, known for authentic Jalisco-style Mexican food, to Travis and Shanna, one of our newest families who now call Hawthorne home..

  • 19 years running a Hawthorne business — RAV Insurance Services
  • 26-year Hawthorne homeowner, MBA, lifelong South Bay resident
  • Strong eye for sound accounting and responsible financial oversight
